Overview
Child Advocates of Fort Bend (CAFB) is a non-profit
organization that works on behalf of child abuse
victims through two advocacy programs: Court Appointed
Special Advocates (CASA) and the Children's Advocacy
Center (CAC).
Incorporated in 1991, CAFB's mission is to provide
a voice for abused and neglected children in Fort
Bend County through the use of specially trained
community volunteers and staff. Our work is based
upon the belief that every child has the right
to a safe and permanent home.
The organization began serving children in 1992
through the CASA program with one part-time staff
member, four volunteers and a 12 member Board of
Directors. To date, CAFB has provided a voice for
more than 8,000 children in crisis, operates two
intensive programs (CASA and the Children's Advocacy
Center, with a staff of 16, a volunteer base of
more than 500, 27 members of the Board of Directors
and a 22 member Children's Advocacy Center Advisory
Council.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) began
speaking on behalf of abused children in family
court in 1992.
The Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) child-focused
facility-based multidisciplinary program began
operations in 1996.
Both programs, distinct as they are, strive to
provide a voice for abused
and neglected children referred to the organization.
Solid relationships with local social service agencies,
extensive volunteer support, a keen awareness of
children's needs and responsible management have
made it possible for Child Advocates of Fort Bend
County to exist.
